Tom and Vini are two unconventional mice who stow away on Noah’s Ark. They must use their musical talent to enter a competition and keep the peace among the animals. Terri the Tiger: I’m Terri. Terri the Bengal Tiger. I’m my wife’s husband. After the singing competition, I must negotiate a peace treaty. Terri the Tiger: [screams] BARUK! WHERE ARE YOU? He’s gone again! Terri the Tiger: Baruk, please go with your lioness. I have a woman to catch! Two musical mice – « Vini » and « Tom » – are taking a well-deserved nap one afternoon when they hear God snorting at his old buddy Noah. Fed up of his Project Earth and wanting to start over, he tells the man to start building. A ship big enough to hold two of each species. Then he’ll send enough rain to clear the decks and invite animals from far and wide – by airmail – as he begins building his ark. Now, this boat isn’t quite as sturdy as the one Russell Crowe built in 2014, but after a few shenanigans, the animals are assembled and the flood comes in. The flaw in all this careful planning is that the menacing lion, aided by his henchmen, soon plans to plunder the ship’s few supplies before heading off to an exceptionally fresh all-you-can-eat buffet. Can the intrepid little mice – now joined by « Nina » – thwart this grand plan long enough for the dove of peace to battle through wind and rain in her search for land? There’s nothing remotely religious about this story, it’s just a lovely animation that features a few jungle creatures and delivers a kind of « Ark’s Got Talent » with some forgettable musical numbers. It’s probably half an hour longer than it needs to be, but once it gets going, it doesn’t let itself get carried away with a story of friendship and determination while reminding us that bullies are usually the most cowardly of all. Sure, it’s a bit corny and reminded me of The Lion King at times, but it’s harmless family fun that’s okay to leave the kids in front of the TV at Christmas.
